Many have asked how the kangaroo became the mascot of Weatherford High

School. In the early 1920’s, Ray Morrison, a beloved coach at WHS, accepted a

position at Austin College. Since Coach Morrison was so admired, WHS adopted the

mascot of his new school, the kangaroo, as their own.

Today, WHS proudly boasts the Kangaroo mascot with school colors of royal

blue and white. Kangaroo Stadium, built in 1949 at the second WHS location, is still

home to Roo football, baseball, and track and field.
